Short and Sweet

Due to a rather busy schedule, I have been behind times on here but do want to highlight some things going on. Sorry!
1.
Its going to get cool late week. Highs for Thursday look to top out in the mid 50s! Frost Thursday and Friday morning is certainly possible. This cool air is thanks to a sizable cold front moving down from the north. This is quite clear looking at temperature change over the past 24 hours.
2.
Tropics are taking a breather. No much happening except the deluge that is Maria over Puerto Rico. Bermuda is under a Tropical Storm watch as Maria heads north. Little or no impact on US mainland is expected.
3.
Like some of you know, I love satellite images. A lot.
Thanks to a lightning strike in northern Minnesota last month, a large 60,000 acre forest fire has started. This sent smoke rising into the upper atmosphere. Today, some locations in western Michigan actually reported a smokey smell! For more information and some neato pyroculumus thunderstorm pictures click here. To tie this in with my satellite imagery love, here is some proof:

Animated image of the large plume of smoke ascending into the night.

MODIS shows a plume of smoke (milky looking substance) over southern Lake Michigan trailing northwest back to Minnesota. (CIMSS)
Maybe that wasn’t so short and sweet, but enjoy the second shot of fall , we are counting down the days!
