Hold on to your hats, more severe weather expected

After a few exciting events this past week, we have another chance to see derecho type storms today across the plains, and Wednesday for lower Michigan. The focus for nationwide severe weather will be on Southern Michigan  tomorrow. Most likely high winds will be the main offender with spots of hail. However, you can never rule out a sparse tornado or two, but they are less common with derecho events. The suspected derecho will walk its way over from Iowa/Minnesota. Derecho or not, severe weather is expected. All of Wednesday and Wednesday night we could see thunderstorms. Severe potential is highest during the evening hours of Wednesday. Keep an eye on the sky.

Speaking of keeping an eye on the sky. Found this nice time-lapse of last Fridays squall line. Shot as the shelf cloud was approching northwest IL.

Shelf cloud approaching northwest IL

Really need to look at it to see just what is happening and gain a sense of the magnitude. The rippling in the edge of the cloud is fantastic. Think my favorite part is the boat at the beginning, speeding away for its life.

Speaking of time-lapses…

Got a new video up in the ‘video’ section. Actually my Photography final project with cloud time lapse. Decided to set music with this one since it is longer. Hope to do more of these once I get a few more segments under my belt.

Enjoy! And be safe.
