Close shave

The talked about storm will just clip southern Michigan enough to give the bottom two rows of counties a moderate accumulation of snow. Areas mostly affected will be southeastern Michigan. Areas like Ann Arbor and Detroit may see up to 5 inches of snow before things are done. This storm is focused south of us in Ohio and Indiana as the track has proven. NWS Detroit has put out some Winter Storm Watches for the counties expected to see the most snow. Really just a glancing blow from the storm. Height of the storm will be late tonight and early tomorrow morning, so it is the perfect time to disrupt the morning travel.

Fascinating part of these storms is how they can produce snow on one side of the system, and severe weather elsewhere. The Storm Prediction Center has a Moderate risk of severe weather out for Southern Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Been talk of strong tornadoes and hail in the area so it will be a spot of observation throughout the day/evening. Right now high CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) values over northern Mississippi, will have to watch there in the coming hours. Pretty decent squall line.

Looking ahead a light snow event will take place over the weekend. Would expect widespread light accumulations out of it. Would say between 1 and 2 inches.

Monday poses the threat of another large system moving through. Right now models take the Low through Michigan which will trigger most places to see a beginning of snow before a transfer to liquid precip and finish as snow. Therefore would not expect heavy accumulations from this system, but a large slop storm will happen. Little disappointed at this as it was looking splendid a week ago, but winter likes throwing curve balls. Have to watch for freezing rain though.

This pattern is so stormy, would not doubt another snow maker will be on its way soon!
