Light snow over weekend, messy Monday!

Light system will train across Michigan today. Would expect an inch or two in central parts of Michigan where the snow is to be persistent. Pretty large flakes floating down outside. What bears watching now is the threat of some heavy rains and freezing rain for Monday.

This system has really changed a lot over the past few days. GFS had taken the low straight through Michigan bringing in mostly liquid precip. Now the low is placed further south and east passing over Lake Erie. Most of the precip in this case I would presume to be snow or a mix. However it depends how far north the warm front trains before the low passes. Think in this new case, mostly southern Michigan would take the hit. Both solutions offer a fairly messy situation for the beginning of the week.

Will let another day go by to let the atmosphere make up its mind.

Ah yes, Monday morning should be interesting. Any predictions for school closings? or too soon to tell?

I think schools should be fine. Looks to be more of a mix of snow and sleet than freezing rain now. Still would not count out a thin icing.

Oh my kiddos – (in mt. pleasant schools) will be disappointed not to see a “red screen” on TV Monday morn.
