Beautiful Fall Week

That’s pretty much all it has been here in Michigan! Highs have been moderating, but for the most part mid 70s and sun has been the perfect combo.

This wonderful weather comes after a closed upper level low pressure system gave us a week and a half of grey skies and scattered showers. It was quite the feature on the weather map, spurring comments about when this ‘in land hurricane’ was going to hit the road. I like the hurricane comment only because it looked like one for a few days! These, more appropriately named, mid-latitude cyclones can intensify and create such a recognizable structure quickly. Its persistent location is caused by the feature being ‘cut off’ from the jet stream.

Water vapor imagery from GOES-15 shows very well how the low rotates and remains stationary (for 4 days, in this animation).

The low finally left us alone once a strong trough pushed through, which also brought some cold temps.

Looking ahead, we still have a few days of great weather! This lasts until Wednesday when some rain could break our streak.
